One stage light and a broken ankle…

In every challenge there is an opportunity, apparently.

Josh Sanderson live music photo by Tony Palmer

A privilege to shoot an indoor live show in the midst of the covid pandemic, a local pub and a musician I know well, Josh Sanderson, I was really looking forward to it. Unfortunately due to a water leak, the stage lights were out and instead there was a single small LED light the sound engineer had brought, in an otherwise very dark venue… Oh, and I’d broken my ankle so was trying to shoot a gig on crutches…

I saw the shadow as soon as I walked in, and then I just waited for the framing and composition I liked. To me its an original image, and that’s often all I’m looking for.

Pandemic + One stage light + Broken ankle = Photo I’m happy with.

Josh Sanderson, @joshvcr, solo singer-songwriter and lead singer with @VCRportsmouth.

Performing at The Loft, above The Kings Pub, Portsmouth, for The Festival Sessions hosted by Nick Courtney.

Shot on Canon 5Dmkiv with 85mm 1.4, and pushing the ISO.
